Kennin-ji Temple was reared in 1202 (Kennin era 2), designed to imitate Song China's Mt Baizhang-shan. The Shogun Minamoto no Yoriie donated temple grounds and appointed Eizai Zen priest as the founder. This Temple was named after the era name, and the mountain was named Tozan.
